Ocean Fishing

Fishing Queen Charlottes is probably best known for salmon fishing. As salmon migrate in the Pacific Ocean they almost always pass through the waters of Haida Gwaii, regardless of their ultimate destination. These fish are destined for the entire west coast from Oregon to Alaska and make fishing Queen Charlottes one of the world's best salmon destinations.

Salmon Fishing Queen Charlottes can be accomplished by using a variety of techniques. Most salmon in saltwater are caught out of a boat by trolling or mooching. You also can catch salmon while fishing Queen Charlottes from shore in some areas, and there are regular runs of salmon into area creeks, streams, and rivers near our lodge in Sandspit.

Those salmon returning to spawn must navigate past the islands in order to get back to their rivers and streams of origin from northern British Columbia and Vancouver Island to Washington, Oregon, and northern California. Fishing Queen Charlottes will give you access to all these fish in one place. The Queen Charlottes are well-known for their world-class salmon fishing, but they also offer an abundance of bottom fish. We target Pacific Halibut (Flounder), Lingcod (Greenlings), and Yelloweye Rockfish (Red Snapper).
