The Fish

Springtime is an anomaly in Queen Charlottes fishing for sea-run cutthroat trout. The quantity, quality and sheer strength of these fish will get the attention of any trout angler. As the fish enter fresh water they gain an incredible hunger for surface flies, and any noisy, skating fly working through a cutthroat's territory is attacked in anger and aggression.

Anglers find more cutts -- and more big cutts -- here in the Charlottes than anywhere else on the West Coast. These cutthroat trout are wild, native fish, born in the hundreds of tiny coastal creeks of the islands.

Some days we have to try a few different creek mouths to find the larger feeding schools, but each outflow will hold some fish. Cutts move around a lot and yesterday's hot spot can hold just a few fish the next day.
